Every year for our lilac party (an annual gathering honoring the women in our family) I challenge myself to create a tablescape that feels entirely different than the year before, so that each celebration stands out and can be tied to specific memories - like the year I used primitive crocks and wrinkled linen and we sat well into the night laughing uncontrollably over one silly thing or another, faces lit by beeswax candles; or the year I strung bistro lights through the trees and it felt like we’d been transported to France.
This year was all about texture and pattern - a playful, modern garden party. With no detail too precious, enamel plates and bamboo silverware, it felt like an elevated picnic and will be marked as the year we really dug deep into what it all means. The year we took the time to truly acknowledge how special this tradition has become, as we grow increasingly grateful for every year we’re able to sit under these blossoms, knowing just how blessed we are to be together.
The lilacs, of course, are always the star of the show, but below is a list of heirloom-quality pieces we used to pull this look together. Pieces we have and will continue to use time and time again.
Watch the full celebration unfold in this episode of Afternoon Tea.
